I am a sucker for magazine articles and sale signs at the grocery store!
I am the reason stores say "10 for $10" or "2 for $5", etc. When I see these signs I always (and I do mean always) feel that I need to buy 10 or 2 - even though they are normally $1 each or $2.50 each - it's crazy but it's true. On a side note - I always buy everything in 2's ... 2 can's of soup, 2 loaf's of bread, 2 gallons of milk, etc. Not sure why I do it - didn't even realize I did it until someone pointed it out and sure enough I do buy everything in 2's :)
I am also very gullible when it comes to magazine articles. I need to realize that every child, husband, etc. is unique and does not always fall under the categories that some magazines or articles are referring to.
I recently read an article that said putting rice in your babies bottle at night tends to lead to obesity. The article also said that putting rice in the babies bottle does not help them sleep through the night and that studies have shown that babies will sleep through the night with just plain milk. So being the sucker I am I decided to try leaving the rice out of my babies bottle. This does not work! On Sunday night Adam was up from 1:15 AM to 4:30 AM - he wasn't fussy he just played but at 4:30 I gave him a bottle and he went right to sleep. Monday night I wasn't going to deal with an all-nighter again so I gave him his normal bottle with normal rice and he slept through the night. Last night I tried to back down on the rice - I cut it in half - Adam was up from 2:00 AM to about 4:00 AM. GGGRRRR. So on my way to work this morning I stopped at the store and bought 2 boxes of baby rice (case in point on the beginning of my blog posting for today :)
I also read an article that said you shouldn't put bumper pads in your babies crib. Again - I felt the need to remove the bumper pads from Adam's crib (because the article said to) and for the last 3 night's I've had to deal with him hitting his head on the bars, getting his leg stuck, him watching everyone and everything that goes on in the hall or in his room when he should be sleeping, his Binky falling out of the crib and me having to search for it on the floor in the middle of the night, etc. So tonight when I get home I am putting the bumper pads back in the crib.
These articles that I read obviously do not apply to my child - do they apply to yours?

Hi Bobbie Jo! I still have Ty's bumber pads on his crib cuz he would hit his head if it wasn't there! I have had them on since the 1st time he slept in there and never had a problem!! I never did try the rice in his bottle though but I say if it works for you, then keep doing it and who cares what anybody thinks!! luv ya!
Yeah, I never really read parenting magazines. I think they are proof-read by lawyers who try to think of any possible liabilities the advice they give might incur. (I do like the funny sections where people send in their REAL parenting stories though).
I use to read those magazines. But now I can't keep up with all the new shoulds and shouldn'ts. And like you said, a lot of time they aren't right! I figure that I can pretty much figure out what my baby needs.
